Spreading STEM by connecting it to English and History

I’m neither a science nor math teacher (nor any other sort), but I love the idea of integrating topics. Life isn’t compartmentalized, and it makes very little sense to compartmentalize large swathes of our education, as far as I can tell. It also makes it difficult to understand the purpose and context of things — for example, if you study history, you learn that at one point we thought the Earth was the center of the universe, which definitely makes sense if you’ve never seen through a telescope or sent up a satellite. But we often lose the context of the fact that, at that same point in history, physics wasn’t empirical science, but simply math. Physical calculations were plugged into models that may or may not equivocate reality, but it didn’t matter so much as long as the data that came out was fairly accurate. It seems like understanding things like that — how radical shifts in the way that we understand the world philosophically, not just empirically, affected the development of culture and civilization — in the context of integrated classes that cover history, math, science, literature, and whatever else is age-appropriate (personal finance, perhaps?) opens a whole new world up for exploration!
