Good stuff. I agree that you can see the negative impacts that YouTube’s algorithms have had on creators, and I hope Twitch doesn’t go the same way. That said, I think tags are a good move, and the ability to manually search and filter by them is great.

Has there been any mention of Twitch looking at using an algorithm to change the order you see streams? Your example of resorting the entire browse list seems extreme, and I can’t imagine it happening. I could see a “recommended for you” banner of maybe 3–4 streams at the top of a game directory, which honestly, I’d have no problem with. If Twitch knows I usually watch streams with around X viewers and Y tags, elevating them to the top just saves me some scrolling. That said, I still want the option of seeing things in viewer count order.

No, the system’s not broken, but that doesn’t mean they can’t do anything to improve either.
