I agree, this seems like change for the sake of change, or for the sake of controversy more than for progress.

Also, I think the USB-C connector is ill suited for perhaps the most popular use of USB ports: thumb drives. It just does not look like it has enough surface area for a good fit to prevent thumb drives from falling out when moving your laptop around.

However, if Apple comes out with an iPhone with a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port I’d be very happy. I’ve found the Lightning connector/concept to be unreliable and flaky.
