Periodontal disease — Causes and treatments

Periodontal disease commonly known as gum disease is caused due to the plague deposits in teeth. Plagues are called for the sticky colorless mucus, foreign particle, and bacteria in our mouth. Plaque deposits occur only when teeth are not brushed or cleaned properly. If these plaques are not cleaned by brushing they will harden and forms tartar. Only a dentist can help you to remove this Tartar from your teeth. The existence of tartar on your teeth causes bacterial infection on gums called as gingivitis.
Due to gingivitis, your gum becomes red, swollen, will bleed easily. Gingivitis does not result in any loss of bone and also it won’t affects the tissue which holds the affected teeth in it. Gingivitis comes under a mild type of gum disease and can be treated by regular brushing, flossing, and regular cleaning by a dentist.
When this gingivitis is not treated at the right time it can cause inflammation around the tooth, a condition called periodontitis.

Periodontitis causes the gums to pull away the teeth which may result in the formation of pockets (spaces) and will infect the spaces. If periodontitis is not treated the bones, gums, and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed.
