#TermLimits4Celebs: Time for Morning Joe to Call it a Day
When it comes to celebrity cable news personalities, no pair competes with the duo moronically known as Morning Joe. This Beltway bullshit team has been making the news they should be reporting on for much too long, evidenced by their recent row with the Orange Man in the White House about Mika Brzezinski’s supposed facelift. According to the Washington Examiner,
Less than two weeks after their trauma, the pair appeared this past Tuesday on late-night TV to giggle about it and promote Scarborough’s side hustle as an aspiring rock artist.
Before a live performance of his song “Welcome to the Monkey House” — the music magazine Spin described it as “pretty bad” — Scarborough took the opportunity to announce in front of a sympathetic audience that he’s switching his party identity from Republican to independent.
Applause followed and the look of pure satisfaction on Scarborough’s face said that the tweet about Brzezinski, his new fiancé, paid off.
This is what the media do with Trump: Criticize him, await the blowback, then play dead before cashing in.
If that’s not torture to the tuning fork, I don’t know what is.
The revolving brothel door
While the Orange Man’s tweet-fart about Mika was, well, par for the course, the tribal social media defense of her ignores the revolving door of this symbiotic attention brothel. You only need to go back to a February, 2016 CNN report to recall the coziness between the Joe’s and the Jerk-in-Chief:
Both Scarborough and co-host Mika Brzezinski are close friends with Trump and members of his family. Scarborough, a former four-term congressman from Florida’s 1st district, has often stayed at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago Club, in Palm Beach, Florida, with his family and was there during the week between Christmas and New Year’s, two sources at the hotel during that time said.
From the Joe’s romance to his very public announcement that he’s leaving the Republican party, everything from this morning brew is overcooked in the name of celebrity hyping. If there’s one thing Joe, Mika and Donald share, it’s an addiction to attention, which should indicate this is nothing more than a ratings game. The question to be asked: WHO IS BEING PLAYED?
The joke’s on who?
That I don’t own a television and gratefully never watch Morning Joe, I only learn about their daily agenda-setting power via the chatter in social media and the blogosphere. My most memorable observation of the program, and its staid, buttoned-up establishment framing of daily discussion was offered a few years back by the comedian, Russel Brand:
As we swim in questions of real vs fake news, the odds are favorable that if you infect your morning mind with Moronic Joe, there’s a good chance the joke is on you. The only reasonable solution, for the Joe’s and Joe-lovers alike is for term limits on the celebrity couple: just switch them off.
Celebrities are the problem. #TermLimits4Celebs is the solution.
