Enhanced Storytelling — Spotify Acquires CrowdAlbum to Help Music Artists Better Engage with Fans

With the aim of building visual histories for artists and music events, CrowdAlbum photo and video aggregation platform will help Spotify provide artists an enhanced toolbox for connecting with their fans and building their business.

CrowdAlbum was established in 2013 and based in San Francisco. Over time it built relationships with about 1,000 musicians. The company’s features will definitely impact Spotify’s appeal as a marketing platform. In addition to CrowdAlbum, since the beginning of the year Spotify also purchased Cord Project, which tinkered with short voice messaging, and Soundwave, a mobile music-discovery startup.

It will be interesting to find out what Spotify has its eyes set on next, and the possible commercial regulations that could develop over the evolving music industry over time.

TechCrunch provides a great run-down of the deal here.
