Volvo’s Autonomous Driving Cars to Hit UK Streets in 2017
Volvo Cars will initiate an autonomous driving (AD) car trial in the United Kingdom. The test, dubbed ‘Drive Me London,’ aims to reduce accidents, congested roads, and time spent on the road. It differs from other trials by using real families driving AD cars.
This is an interesting time in the car industry and machine learning. Volvo joins a host of other global companies working on AD technology. Earlier this week, Google, Ford, Uber and Lyft formed a coalition with Volvo, Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets, to help speed up the policy development regarding AD cars. The group highlights research that shows AD cars could significantly reduce fatalities on the road. It will be headed by former lead figure of the United States’ NHTSA, David Strickland.
