Covid -19 is not the virus, we are.
Let us be clear , wherever this thing came from, the hype built up on the internet and media has made the first modern racist plague. The Americans are saying the Chinese did it, the Chinese are saying the contrary. The Indians accuse the Muslims and the Muslims are saying it is a punishment from god for western immorality. Some even claim the aliens are responsible, thankfully they are not easily offended otherwise they could truly finish us off. The Spanish flu is thought to have been carried over by US soldiers in WW1. Sums up AmeriKKKa for you. Give them a disease and let them take the blame for it.
If we really want to deal with racism we have to stop trivialising the origins of disease and that disease is in our minds without further fuelling from an ignorant media with politicians flicking lit matches at the papers.They are not helped by scientists vying for funds for the latest in vogue affliction that affects rich white elderly folk. More children and people die of starvation and easily treatable problems than could ever be accounted for by any virus. The list of things people die of that do not catch the headlines that kill more is endless but you will never get them championed by The Daily Mail or National Enquirer. For that matter Big Pharma runs a mile where they do not see a profit.
There has been racist name calling of these poor bugs before now, take syphyllis depending on where you came from it was the French disease, Polish , German , Neopolitan, Portuguese, insert name of any nationality not taking adequate precautions.
The real culprits are the media, we live in a culture where an easy target is the only bullseye they score. We have coexisted with pathogens ever since we have been around, indeed viruses have become part of our DNA and we may not have been here had it not been the case. We have ‘domesticated’ a lot of viral RNA into our very own DNA as a sort of ‘intelligent design’. Without rogue viruses we simply would not exist.
What the media need to realise is that they too are a virus and rather like a true parasite , it is not in the interests of the pathogen to kill the host as it then has nowhere to go, they thrive on their readership to keep them alive. The virulence comes in the more outrageous the claim the more headline effect it will have.
The very nature of being is to interact with others, we are a social co-operative species that thrives on touch, embrace and closeness. What is now being facilitated is whilst many consider it precautionary, inhuman. We cannot continue to live like this.
We are probably looking for BAME to get the BLAME sometime soon. Ever thought that these are the front facing, nurses, doctors, taxi drivers, check out operators. I cannot imagine many Stock Market traders being held accountable for the Wall Street pox. That would have by now, become cured or castrated of its pathogenicity as soon as it started to infect the hedge fund and investment automatons.
You got to believe that we got here by frequent handwashing, good hygiene and manners when we coughed or sneezed.
We are the plague; we are the virus, call it whatever race/gender/religion you like.
