Like those you mention at the end of your article, I identify as an EU citizen, not an immigrant, and certainly not a migrant. For me, the entire EU is home, and that is also my legal status. The Lisbon treaty gives me (and you, and, until they leave, even the UK leavers) a ‘secondary citizenship’ in all other EU countries. To me, this is the main issue and the main source of pain. The loss of the EU as a home for UK citizens in the future, and the loss of the UK as a home for us EU citizens in the UK.

I, too, feel hurt and insulted when we are only mentioned in our usefulness (so if we are no longer useful, are we then discarded? Like objects? Like slaves?). We are human, just as the UK citizens. Who are, actually, citizens only in the EU. In the UK they are ‘subjects’ of the monarchy.
