This November, ODSC will be returning to in-person conferences with ODSC West 2021, November 16th-18th in San Francisco. This year we will be introducing an all-new format: the hybrid conference. Not only will we have in-person talks, workshops, and training sessions, we will also have virtual sessions. Although we have not yet determined who will be presenting virtually and who will be presenting in-person, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our first group of ODSC West 2021 speakers below.

Facebook’s Prophet is one of the most-liked forecasting approaches nowadays. Its usage is very well described, the code itself cleanly documented, hence instead of giving examples of Facebook’s Prophet, we will look under the hood to understand where these Bayesian model novelties lie.

The Model

The second you hear the model incorporates trend, seasonality, and holiday effects, you think: “Yeah, Sherlock, true rocket (data) science. That’s how we’ve been decomposing time series from long before Facebook itself existed.”

However, in the time series world, it’s not only the matter of WHAT but also the matter of HOW. …

Predicting financial crises is notoriously difficult. This is primarily a consequence of the infrequency of such events and the instability of relationships between financial variables. However, it is also related to the contagious nature of financial crises: if one bank expects another to liquidate its holdings of a certain asset, then it may also feel pressured to do the same. As such, a financial crisis may be triggered by a belief cascade across financial market participants, rather than movements in hard financial variables.

While beliefs are not directly observable, they can sometimes be inferred from documents produced by financial market…

It is hard to overlook the boom of virtual events in 2020 and 2021. In fact, research confirms that the live streaming events market size will grow to $184 billion by 2027 — meaning there are a lot of businesses that want to monetize virtual events.

This means that virtual events are here to stay, and will only continue to grow and have more opportunities. As virtual events become essential for businesses and individuals, there will be more expectations from audiences. It would be fair to state that the virtual events market shows huge potential. …

Facial Landmarks — a Solution in Deepfakes

This article covers three of the most widely used methods for facial landmarks and deepfake solutions: OpenCV, dlib, and MTCNN.

Announcing ODSC APAC September 15th-16th

ODSC APAC 2021 is returning this…

The human face and body are key entities in the task of fake content generation. Particularly when dealing with the human face, apart from detecting the overall face in each image or video, a deepfake solution also needs to focus on the eyes, mouth, and other features. The different deepfake solutions are:

  • Facial Action Coding System (FACS)
  • 3D Morphable Model (3DMM)
  • Facial landmarks

FACS and 3DMM-based features are highly accurate but computationally expensive and sometimes even require human intervention (for example, FACS coding) for proper results. …

If it’s been a while since you’ve mastered a skill, especially one that you don’t use on a daily basis, it’s possible for your knowledge and proficiency to deteriorate some. The deterioration might occur in just a few specific areas, and not across the subject as a whole. The question then becomes how to identify the areas that need a refresher course, so that you can use your time and money wisely before you tackle a data science assessment.

Ai+ Training has recently launched AiQ Assessments featuring assessments on many of the essential and core data science topics including machine…

We couldn’t be more excited to announce that ODSC APAC Virtual will be returning this year on September 15th and 16th. Join us for two days of expert-led instruction on the AI tools and techniques driving the future of India and the Asia Pacific region. Furthermore, the conference will be held virtually enabling you to attend wherever you might be and whichever time zone you are in. So, mark your calendars, you don’t want to miss out.

Over the course of two days, ODSC APAC will cover both India and the Asia-Pacific region. The first day will feature training sessions…

Python is one of the most popular languages in the world. It’s used in a lot of different fields, like web services, automation, data science, managing computer infrastructure, and artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Its readable and concise syntax makes it a great option for teaching students their “your first programming language,” but under the façade of an easy and amicable language, there’s a huge amount of power.

Python is easy to learn and to use, sure, but it’s also capable of fantastic feats in demanding environments like video games, banking services, healthcare, or state-of-the-art scientific research.

Python, in particular…

Hosting virtual events may be all the rage right now, but popularity isn’t why all businesses should seriously consider hosting one. These virtual events are a treasure trove of data, the kind that companies cannot afford to miss.

Let’s take a look at the three types of data businesses can get from hosting virtual events. We’ll also look at how to gather insights from what can be an overwhelming amount of data.
