Looking to Build a Better Company Culture? Start with Snacks.
Just last week, USA Today published a story titled, “Study: The key to happiness at work is free snacks.” This article delved deep into the idea that companies are using snacking programs to keep employees engaged, happy and, most importantly, excited about coming to work.
The idea of offering snacking programs in offices is not a new one, but until recently, it has been only thought of as being offered by companies like Google and Facebook, with the prevailing thought being that there is a constant struggle to attract and retain the best talent; and a great snack program is a way to separate themselves from the competition.
After offering full snacking programs at Corporate Essentials for nearly two full years, we started to look deeper about why they work, and look more closely at why snacks are synonymous with great company culture as opposed to other things. And during our year-long company rebrand, we came up with what we think is a real answer: with so many intangibles when it comes to creating a great company culture, snacks are a tangible item; they’re something everyone can see, touch and enjoy.
With that being said, just having a great office snack program will not magically transform any company’s culture, but it can be a strong foundation on which a positive company culture can be built. While so many other things in the mysterious world of culture being things we can’t see unless we’re in the midst of them.
