Bottom Line: In 2017 I will be walking the entire original street grid of Raleigh, NC… Join me!

The Plan: So there I was thinking about our fine City the other day and I realized that as a relative newcomer to Raleigh, I still had a lot of Raleigh to explore. In an effort break down the huge task of exploring Raleigh into a more “bite sized” problem I thought it would be kind of cool if could say that I have walked all of the streets of downtown. Walking has always seemed to me to be the best way to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of a city, so I felt I was on to something. But what is “downtown” and where does it end?

After doing some pretty solid googling, and remembering a conversation I had with a classmate of mine (thanks, Imran) I came up with a pretty simple solution, I was going to walk the entire original grid — As laid out by William Christmas in 1792 — of Raleigh. Christmas’ plan was a bit different than the current layout, but since his city was bounded by North, South, East, and West streets (see what he did there?!?!), that is where I would walk. And thus the #WalkRaleigh mission was born.

There are about 23 segments to walk, so if you are at all interested in seeing a part of downtown you have never seen before on foot, let me know if you want to join!
