Ratings:

  • Exclude — Hell naw. Usually a better option. Or it’s just totally not useful at all and actively hurts the player that includes it. If you can make it work, it requires an extremely laborious setup, vulnerable to disruption. Ex: Eden Shard, Record Reconstructor, Disrupter
  • Include (Conditional) — Niche effects, combo-reliant, or meta-reliant. Sometimes a dead card. Ex: Keyhole, Escher, Paintbrush
  • Include — A solid card to run, particularly if you’re in its faction. Ex: R&D interface, The Turning Wheel, Diesel, I’ve Had Worse
  • Include (Ubiquitous) — In a lot of cases, you’re going to want to import this even out of faction. Ex: Sifr, Temujin Contract, Daily Cast
  • JACKSON HOWARD — You’re actively hindering yourself by NOT running this, regardless of your deck’s strategy. Ex: JACKSON HOWARD, Sure Gamble, Hedge Fund

Synth DNA Modification — Include

As a singleton, it makes breaking any bit of AP ice a risk. With multiples on the field, there’s no winning solution except Criminal-only bypass shenanigans. With Synth DNA AND Bio-Ethics, the runner has to brave a sandstorm just to get anywhere — one that slices and eviscerates their flesh and mind for even the most meager reward.

Sure, it inherently demands a certain framework to support — though only one influence, it’s hard to put it anywhere outside of Jinteki (though keep an eye on Weyland’s Skorpios division). But the effect, and especially its cumulative effect, is extremely dangerous and well-worth respecting. IG prisons, especially, are gonna love this additional bit of barbed wire.

Kakugo — Include (Ubiquitous)

I am very enthusiastic about Jinteki this datapack. Between Kakugo and Synth DNA Mod, there’s a twice-damned taxing theme going on that might actually help the corp as a whole to be more relevant in the face of NBN tagstorm’s dominance. While Kakugo isn’t as splashable in multiples as Synth DNA, you might want to pack it as a singleton elsewhere anyhow, as a way to deter multi-runs on a single server. That’s grossly punishing to somebody hoping to take advantage of R&D Interface, Medium, or other similar mechanics, when even having the right icebreaker and everything else still means you get punished.

And there’s Skorpios to look out for, where a guaranteed-damage AP barrier feeds right into their gameplan. While vulnerable to Sifrsite — what isn’t? — it’s still a potent card to be considered. And with Skorpios running around, that Parasite isn’t recurring…
