WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 — Spurred by reports of untapped deposits of uranium, a six-nation race appeared developing tonight: to explore the icy mysteries of the Antarctic.

The race, it was learned, was led by the British, who got a jump on all other countries by secretly sending a thirty-member expedition to occupy the United States Antarctic base held in 1941 by the Adm. Richard E. Byrd expedition.

Other countries in the race, besides Britain and the United States, include Soviet Russia…
