Learning To Surf

A beginner Surfers Perspective

The cliche that we most hear when talking about surfing is that “Surfing is a lifestyle” admittedly this is true to an extent.

What if you want to surf or even just learn to Surf but you already have your own way of life or “lifestyle”. Does this mean that surfing is not accessible? Could this mean that Surfing is not for you?

Surfing is definitely a creative marketers dream weapon when it comes to selling you something that you either don´t want or don´t need.

The phrase that the Surfing fashion company Billabong coined was “Only a Surfer Knows the feeling” Surfing is very much a feeling. The first time that you feel a wave push you in-towards the beach is an incredible and exhilarating experience. It is something that stays with you forever.

To learn to Surf you definitely don´t need to be from Hawaii or California, you don´t need to be fit, tanned, blonde and agile. Just letting yourself go and being in the moment will teach you how to Surf. The ocean will always put you in your place, a good lesson in itself.

If you feel like you want to learn to Surf get yourself to a good surf school. A Surf School with the right attitude, experience and equipment. The experience of learning to surf should be highly enjoyable.

Just because someone is a good surfer does not make them a good teacher. Be realistic about what you want. The ocean will quickly out you in your place if you get cocky. The best surfer in the water is the one who is having the most fun!
