Since 1978, the American Planning Association (APA) has supported the city planning industry through initiatives like Planners4Health, through which the organization recently provided 28 of its chapters with $1.5 million. This money will be used to improve coordination between public health professionals and city planners at the state level. In doing so, it will make communities around the United States healthier and stronger.
Planners4Health is a six-month initiative that will provide important resources and information to states so that they can improve their communities. The initiative is part of the three-year, $9 million Plan4Health program, an APA program funded by the CDC that combats lack of nutritious foods and physical activity. Each chapter that receives Planners4Health money is responsible for sharing its public health and planning information and finding potential partners to promote community building.
