How to choose the perfect office space

When we plan our own business, a checklist is probably the most important document we will have before the first paycheck we receive. It will turn out to be the secret code to remind us vital issues such as to come up with a name for our brand or find the right messages to make people know we’re ready to rule the world. However, when the paper no longer has space we remember there’s one thing left: office space. One of the most important factors that will determine how clients perceive us, the way our company will relate to the world and our well being when we brainstorm new awesome ideas. Here’s a guide to choose the perfect office space.

Location: We must determine where we want our office to be. Some may want it near home and others may find it more convenient to be close to the main factory. No matter our major reason, we always need to consider if the area has a good reputation, who the neighbors are and whether our clients will feel comfortable when they meet us. The last thing we want to do is to lose potential clients just because they have an uneasy feeling about the place. We must also have in mind if the location is convenient for our target. In case our company offers services for people located in the South, it won’t very smart to have our office up in the North.

Transportation: It’s important to check if there’s public transportation nearby to facilitate the way people will get to our office. A good idea is to visit the place during rush hours to analyze if there are any traffic patterns, alternative routes to avoid any difficulty and if there are various ways of transportation in case of a closure. We want our day to start as best as possible and transportation will definitely affect that.

Business Center: Now that we have a location and considered transportation, the next thing is to study the building’s amenities and services. Although most of them offer a support team for maintenance, receptionist, and IT assistance; it’s necessary we ask the business manager before surprises appear. We don’t want to add more money to our budget to hire staff. Another thing to take into consideration is whether we like how the receptionist welcome clients. At the end, that’s the person responsible for the first contact with them. For those who prefer to work late at night, it’s crucial to know if the office has a 24/7 access and if there’s always security personnel around. Remember safety and overall wellbeing comes first.

Space: Will the office space give us enough room for our workers? In case we expand in the future (of course we will because our company will rock) is there’s the possibility to accommodate new members? These are some of the questions we need to answer before we make the decision. Besides from that, we should figure out if the office is fully furnished, if there’s the possibility to decorate the space with our brand’s personality and if it’s already wired and ready to use.

Entertainment: A work-life balance is also part of the entrepreneur’s adventure. That includes restaurants nearby, banks and local amenities in case we need to make some errands during lunch break. If we deal with clients that come from outside the city, it will be much easier if our office space is located in a place with hotels and nice places to take them after meetings. After all we want to be great hostesses, right?
