I realize that the manly world my father had tried to make wasn’t even a world he wanted to live in.
My Father, Donald Trump

Men like Trump has existed in history and books. Men who want to be perceived as invincible, unremorseful, strong, powerful and fearless, but deep down in their heart they are afraid of themselves.

Here is a passage from Chinua Achebe Things fall apart where he described the Trump-like life of Okonkwo who did a lot of evil things because he doesn’t want to be perceived as fearful or coward.

“Perhaps deep down in his heart, Okonkwo was not a cruel man but his whole life was dominated by fear… It is more intimate than the fear of evil, of death and of Capricious gods…..
Okonkwo’s fear was greater than these. It was not external but lay deep within himself. It was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father”
