“RED ALERT — SANTOS HAS RIGS BACK IN THE PILLIGA

Santos has taken its WildDesert workover rigs into the forest this afternoon. Workover maintenance is an essential part of the CSG industry. So, while these are not drill rigs they are undertaking work that is necessary for the ongoing functionality of the wells.

This work is an ongoing part of establishing the Narrabri Gas Project, and is therefore a very worthwhile target for demonstrated opposition. It may be a timely opportunity to rebuild some momentum in the campaign following from the Big Picture celebration yesterday.

Last week we showed how active we can be in a RED ALERT situation with the good coverage (Daily Leader and WIN News) from our skeleton crew when a frack rig was traveling through.

We need to remind Santos that pressing on with this project will mean opposition, delays and costs at every turn.

Bring signs, lots of water and sun protection and enough fuel to drive into and around the forest (allow for 200kms of driving from Narrabri/Coonabarabran)

On monday local activist Dan Lanzini broke the news that Santos have a fracking rig about to enter the Pilliga Forest

As the call went out across Australia Dan found a second rig

Another Coonabarabran local Rosemary Vass found a workers camp in transit: dongas for the Fly-in-fly-out workers to live in.

The threat to the Pilliga -and invaluable underground water including the Great artesian basin- has been known for some time. 18 months ago Santos pulled out after massive local opposition.

A fightback camp has been established …your attendance needed

as @cloudscreek says be very careful what you wish for
