Vignette 4

The sun shined hard on her. She wished she could change that but she was still too weak. She walked quickly past all the kids, into the lonely streets and over the weak bridge that should have been fixed a long time ago. She entered the woods, the sound of her surroundings telling her she was in a different place. A bird came flying towards her and sat on her shoulder.
“Hello, little fellow.”
She walked towards her usual spot in the middle of the woods, close enough to the river that its gentle rushing sounds could be heard, and deep enough that no one could find her even if they had knowledge of the woods. The bird flew back among the trees and looked down at her, knowing exactly what was going to happen. Bucks, wild rabbits and wild dogs gathered around her watching through the trees. Birds flew down to the ground and sat next to the other creatures looking on.
She put her backpack down on the ground and walked into the circle formed by the trees, the bright sunlight shining down on her.
Rubbing her hands she readied herself to let go of the tingly feeling that had been bothering her the whole day, making it hard to concentrate on algebra.
She formed a circle with her hands and closed her eyes, focusing hard. A small ball of light grew larger between her hands. She lifted the ball up towards the sky, cupping it gently. A smile grew at the sides of her mouth as she threw the ball up into the air. It flew at high speed into the air, above the trees and before disappearing, turned the clouds around it pink.
Energized and relieved at the sudden load of power escaping her, she ran up towards a tree that appeared to be dying and touched the bark. Closing her eyes she controlled her breathing. A warm burning feeling escaped her hand as it illuminated into a bright yellow glow. Instantly the tree started looking stronger, and the leaves were green again, it even grew a little and stood taller where it was drooping before.
With a smile she removed her hand and looked at her work. A bird cawed behind her and she turned around, fearing the worst. An unfamiliar boyish face looked at her shocked before running away.
The animals looked at her, asking her permission to track him down, but she shook her head slightly and they stayed in place. She knew she could easily catch up to him with her speed but still frozen in shock and the thought of what will happen she sank down to the ground. Behind her the tree shrank back to its original dying state.
