Well I would clarify that in Europe *no one* seems to assimilate (U.K. might be an exception), they take culture much more seriously over there and immigrants are expected to keep their identities (guest workers in Germany were originally not even expected to stay there).

(So it’s not just Muslims, but also [in Germany] Greeks, Yugoslavs and Italians who hold onto their backgrounds relatively tightly.)
