The readability of a product is one of the parts that is very often overlooked. As part of this article, I explore the factors that impact readability

Factors Influencing Readability and Legibility

Background

the background color has a great effect on the ability to read and distinguish both interactive elements and content. In addition The readability of the text and the background should also be checked by using the ratio of the Web Content Accessibility Organization (WCAG) for small and large fonts.

Typography

Type is used for texts that should be more attractive and convey concepts more clearly .
It includes details such as font size, style, and content color that make text more readable and help convey a message .
In order to simplify products today, it is important to write textual details that make the user experience as simple as possible .

In the aspect of making content clear, there are several impactful points such as:

Font Size: Font size plays an important role in text readability; a text’s importance and its role in the content can be indicated with its size .

Font Weight: Font weight is the ratio of a character’s thickness to height .

Line Height: The vertical distance between two lines is called line height. Its most common value is 1.5 .

Alignment: placing and justifying text .

White space: Spacing between elements of a composition .

Tracking: Space adjustment for a group of type characters that form a word and text block .

UX writing

interface text is based on four basic elements:

clear: Users understand your message, it is not unclear or difficult to understand .

useful: Users receive information or are able to interact .

consistent: Identical style, tone, voice, and terminology are used throughout the interface of one digital product

Tips on Better Readability and Legibility

  • Use number
  • Put text in the block
  • Short text
  • Listing
  • Visually mark the most importatnt information in the text
  • Check contrast
  • Play with font size and font weight reasonably
  • don`t forget white space and separators
  • Text division

Sure, all of the above factors can be addressed in further depth to uncover additional ways to improve the clarity of the content on the website or screen. Still, I’m hoping that today’s article will serve as a useful checklist for UX designers who want to create interfaces that are not only attractive but also easy to understand.
