OCS Gains New Cannabis Advisor
Cannabis entrepreneur and spokesman for the Dutch Cannabis Association “PCN” and Hein Schafrat joins On Chain Smokers.
Hein Schafrat, one of the most respected Dutch cannabis entrepreneurs with over thirty years experience in the business will join On Chain Smokers to advise the project going forward.
Hein, who made his name as the owner of Coffeeshop Maximillian, started his first business in 1989 in Haarlem. Today, Maximillian operates in four locations, with Maximillian Tilburg opening its doors in 1992, followed by Easy Max Haarlem in 2013 and De Groene Gaper serving the Hoofddorp community since 2015.
Between 2016 and 2018, Hein was a board member of the BCD, the union of cannabis retailers, and facilitated a close cooperation between the organization and Platform Cannabisondernemingen Nederland (PCN) that he led as its president from 2015 to 2021.
PCN is the national association for coffeeshops and other cannabis businesses. The association consists of committed entrepreneurs working together towards a recognized, professional and mature industry that is in dialogue with the government to make a positive contribution to public health and safety. After the end of his tenure as PCN president in 2021, Hein became the spokesperson of the association and continues to serve as a board member.
As one of the most prominent advocates for safe consumption, Hein was instrumental in establishing the “Keurmerk Coffeeshops”, a government-recognized protocol that ensures the quality of cannabis businesses operating in Haarlem. Thanks to the initiative, participating shops enjoy certain privileges over other coffeeshops operating in Holland and have made significant steps to normalize the relationship of legal businesses operating in the industry with regulatory and law enforcement agencies.
His continued advocacy and frequent trips to Den Haag to consult the Ministry of Health eventually led to the passing of a law known as “Weed Experiment” (Wietexperiment), paving the way for the regulated production, distribution and sale of cannabis.
Bringing his expertise and vast experience to On Chain Smokers, Hein will advise the project on quality, health and safety protocols for future partners to ensure that OCS members can enjoy their experience at partner locations across the globe. He will also represent the project as an ambassador in the Netherlands and beyond, forming a strong union of independent shops against profit-oriented pharmaceutical corporations looking to increase their market share at the expense of traditional local businesses.
