Hey there!

Maci here, co-founder and CEO of On Second Thought.

Have you ever sent a message you wished you could take back?

Don’t be shy, I have. Autocorrect has a vendetta against me has led me to send very embarrassing messages. But when I talked to my friends and realized all of them had sent a message they wished they could take back, the idea for On Second Thought was born.

Every member of our team has also been there, which is why we’re so passionate to make sure the chance to fix embarrassing mistakes is standard on every phone and in every app.

Over 80% of Americans who text use messaging in a professional capacity. Companies are rapidly adopting messaging to make it easier to send money, confirm an order, or contact customer service. With more at stake in our messaging ecosystem, we need an opportunity to reverse any mistakes when making these important transactions.

Founded in 2014 after winning the #StartupOasis pitch competition at South by Southwest, On Second Thought has been recognized as a Top 50 startup in the United States, and has had first place finishes in the Women Who Tech Startup Challenge, IMA Startup Battlefield and Innovator’s Classic, sponsored by AT&T.

Our journey started with a standalone Android messaging app, to confirm the hypothesis that it was possible to take back text messages before they get to the other person. Our app quickly spread to over 190 countries, almost entirely via word of mouth. Our retention rate was over 85% for users who took back their first message, and 10% of the total messages sent via the app were taken back.

We knew we’d hit on a winning formula to prevent messaging mistakes, but we also knew our functionality needed to be available in all the places users were already messaging: from texts, to enterprise messaging platforms, to dating apps, to gaming…even customer service interactions. So we packaged our underlying functionality into a simple SDK to allow any app or platform with a messaging component to save their users from the social pain of embarrassing messaging mistakes.

Join us on our quest to save the world on unsent message at a time!

Thank you,
Maci
