Crissy Field + Palace of Fine Arts
San Francisco, CA
Where the Pacific meets the Golden Gate
The Golden Gate Bridge spans the strait between where the Pacific Ocean meets the San Francisco Bay. On the Bay side of the bridge, salt and fresh water mix along the stretch of shoreline at Crissy Field, a former US Army airfield that has been transformed into a National Recreation Area with stunning views of the Bridge, Marin Headlands and infamous Alcatraz Island. Across the street stands the monumental Palace of Fine Arts, originally built as part of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition to celebrate the city’s reemergence after the devastating 1906 earthquake.
