Rafu Shimpo News
Rafu Shimpo News is “the nation’s leading Japanese American newspaper” and is branded as LA’s daily newspaper with headquarters in downtown. As such, the neighborhood that Rafu Shimpo focuses on primarly is the Little Tokyo Historical District, which encompasses the largest Japanese-American population in North America. I chose this newspaper honestly because it was one that fit the criteria but also because I have taken multiple classes at LMU that focus on cultures of East Asia. For instance, I took a class about pop culture in Japan last year and am interested to see if any topics addressed in that class (anime, influence on Western films, etc) will be addressed in this particular medium. When doing log posts, I plan to focus mainly on the newspaper’s sections surrounding music festivals, arts, and special occasions.
