My Best Friend Is A One Year Old
Why Do I Love Hanging Out With A Baby More Than Most Adults?
I normally hang out with people who are closer to me in age — 30s and 40s, though I do have some friends in their 20s and some much older. One of my favorite people is a 65 year old guy who plays the ukulele.
But my best friend is one year old.
He is so funny! He doesn’t even mean to be. You know those people who are just naturally hysterical and don’t even try? That’s him. Whether he’s trying to maybe kiss me and ends up biting my face or he is laughing so hard with his baby guffaw at a lame little game I am playing with him that it gets everyone in the room to crack up, he makes Dave Chappelle look like Pauly Shore.
He’s also a great cuddlier. He curls up into my belly and little spoons like a serious pro. He should teach a seminar.
And he eats all of whatever food I make for him with enthusiasm. Everyone needs one friend who likes their cooking.
He also dresses really well. Although that’s mostly my doing, he still looks really good in whatever I put on him. Some friends can’t handle fashion advice — not this guy; he can!
He listens when I say “no”. I don’t think he exactly understands but he looks at me curiously and slooows dooowwn. Like a good friend should.
We have a lot of fun together. Whether we are going to the library to hear books get read aloud or to an ice cream shop where I eat and he watches, everything we do is fun. He’s totally down for whatever.
He never tells anyone my secrets, he never tells on me to his dad when I do something wrong, and he always forgives me when I make mistakes.
He pushes me to be a better person, strive for more, eat healthier, get good rest, meditate and stay in fair shape without even saying a word. He’s my best friend. I know it might not last forever, how many friendships do? But for now, this one year old is my true blue buddy.
