A Few Bad Highs: What I Learned From Smoking Marijuana

I have rarely had a bad experience with weed, though I can see why some people would have “bad trips” and one of the main reasons: Although you can’t technically overdose and die from it, you can certainly smoke, inhale, or ingest too much of it. This is no different from edibles, in which most people disregard and say it is their least favorite way to consume marijuana.

When you smoke marijuana, you will feel the effects almost immediately. Your lungs immediately experience the effects, the smoke itself is circulated into the oxygen and bloodstream, which gets distributed throughout the body and the brain, and you experience “being high”.

Eating marijuana teaches you a lot about how digestion actually works. When you eat food, you get the immediate results of the taste. However, you do not get the immediate benefits of the nutrition. This takes time, as your digestive system has to process it, it has to go through the liver, pass through the intestines, where it can finally be distributed into the blood stream and throughout the body. Then you start to experience “being high”.

When you eat marijuana, your digestive system has to process it, which takes some time. Most people think that “edibles” or edible marijuana is not working, so they tend to eat double the dosage, and ultimately, they experience what seems like everything happening all at once, and it can be extremely overwhelming to the point where they feel like they ate acid. This tends to lead to a “bad trip” and a bad experience, and they end up hating edibles.

Marijuana has a different effect for everyone, giving some the munchies, causing others to think a lot and be productive, while maybe causing others to not think at all and be completely invalid during the time they are high.

Similar to what you said, just like food, just like television, just like the influence of the people we listen to and the things we do: Everything we do has an effect on our brains because our brains are constantly learning, and that also includes the effects of marijuana which may not be the same every single time.

When it comes to marijuana, it is probably safer than most prescription drugs and all other harder drugs like heroine, cocaine, methamphetamine, and even alcohol, etc.

The most common reasons people have a “bad high”: They go into it with a paranoid mindset, they go into it with abnormal thoughts, or they simply took too much for the brain to process. As I said earlier: You can’t overdose, but you can inhale or ingest too much, and the only thing that anyone can do during those times is to just wait it off. Some people become so scared about it and they end up calling 911 and getting a drug conviction simply because they misunderstand how to use marijuana.

The best thing people can do during those times of paranoia or a bad trip: Remind yourself that a drug is in your system, your body is processing it, it is probably 100% unlikely that you are going to die because of marijuana, and you must either sleep it off or keep yourself occupied by reading a book, surfing the Internet, or watching television. Know that the world is messed up, but our entire society continues to function like normal and is not in complete and utter chaos. Everything will go back to normal as soon as your high is over.

If you happen to be at home, the best thing you can do is: Lock your doors and know that you are completely safe. If you are not at home, than either try to get home where you can be completely safe, or simply keep your cool out in public. The effects of the marijuana trip will come to pass.
