Update on Operator

Last September, we announced Operator’s Series B financing and expansion into China: significant moves in our mission to build a cross-border commerce platform across the world’s two largest consumer markets. To help support and sustain momentum in China, we paused our work in the United States to focus on the cross border opportunity.

We’ve learned a lot working in both markets, and it gave us two realizations: 1) Providing more independence and autonomy would maximize the chances of success for our China team and 2) There is still a place for a US-only, commerce-focused, version of Operator.

So, we’ve decided to separate Operator into two companies going forward: Our China team will be spun out as an independent commerce brand and company based in Shanghai. Additionally, we’ll be launching a new version of Operator in the US later this year, led by Peter Zhu, our US General Manager. Robin Chan will be a board member of the new China company, and Executive Chairman of Operator US.

The markets in China and the United States each have their own unique needs and customers, and we feel two focused, independent companies will create two bigger success stories in the long run. We’re excited about the future of both companies and we will update you on the specific timelines of each soon.

Thanks,

Robin
