My Life Changing Journey to the Philippines

Back in 2013, I had one of the biggest epiphanies of my young life. It was time to make some major changes and embark on the journey I had always dreamed of.

At the time, I was working a high paying job after working my way up the ranks. I managed casino construction in Las Vegas for some big players in the industry. I even had my own office on the Las Vegas strip. But you know what? There was still something missing in life. That thing was finding my true happiness.

Money is cool, but being happy is the pureness! I noticed a lot of the older men who worked for years had a lot of money but not a lot of hair. The stress wore them down. The job was their entire lives. I didn’t want to be like that.

One night, I read a story about a guy’s trip through the Philippines. It inspired me and made me want to do the same thing. In order to do it, I had to quit my job and completely change my life path. In my vocabulary, these are called power moves and are the most important decisions a person can make in life.

I carefully planned for the trip and was even a little scared about traveling by myself. By the time the trip came around, I was taking a one way flight nonstop from San Francisco to Manila. The flight was excellent. It came stocked with free San Miguel beer smile emoticon

The photo attached below is a picture I took from the balcony of the apartment I rented. It was taken only a couple hours after my arrival. To me it represents new beginnings that forever changed me for the better.

My 4 month journey through the Philippines was a new level of Epcot City. Levels of happiness had become sky high. Ever since then, I have been traveling and started a new career. I don’t make as much money, but I am infinitely more happy.

The lesson learned was to follow my true dreams instead of settling for anything less. Since starting to travel, I have met new friends, learned new hobbies, discovered new lands and most importantly found myself. Now everyday, I strive to find that same bliss around the world.
