What It’s Like to Wonder If Your Assault Made You Queer

Thank you for your thoughtful posting. It made me sad.

Unfortunately, because such incredible pressure was placed on the APA to “normalize” any and all homosexual behaviour (removing any possibility of it being pathological), no mainstream psychologist or psychiatrist will touch your issue with a 10-ft pole. Currently, even a doctor posting a response here to your legitimate questions would run the risk of being sued by a group like the NGLTF. Sadly, you won’t even get “officially helpful” answers here on Medium. Thanks, political correctness!

PS - This is an issue that has bothered me since one of my gay friends told me he had been violently abused by his father as a child, and raped by a man as a teen, and then wanted to know if his current lifestyle choices were at least partially a result of those incidences.
