Jamaican Chevening Scholars visits High Commissioner

One of the first things the 2015/16 batch of Jamaican Chevening Scholars wanted to do after arriving in the United Kingdom was to see our High Commissioner.
After settling in with University life and getting accustomed to our new home, on Wednesday November 4 we paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Aloun Ndombet Assamba and her Deputy Mrs. Diedre Mills at the Jamaican High Commission Office in London.
The Jamaican diplomats were elated to welcome us and eager to learn about our areas of study and interests.

The courtesy call resulted in an open invitation by The High Commissioner to join in activities hosted by the High Commission and other Jamaican organisations operating in the UK.
During the very lively and warm exchange, the High Commissioner reminded the scholars to use the opportunity while in the UK to visit places of interest and build strong networks but to also feel welcome to contact her office for any help or information needed.
It was also very interesting hear the High Commissioner speak of the growing interest in securing a Jamaican passport and nationality by those people living in the UK but whose parents were born in Jamaica.
The High Commissioner said this is an indication that the Jamaican passport has tremendous value when travelling across the world and told the Chevening Scholars to let persons in the UK who are eligible for Jamaican citizenship know they can apply.
The Jamaican Chevening Scholars are looking forward to share in the activities hosted by the Jamaican High Commission in London and around the UK and thank the High Commissioner Her Excellency Aloun Ndombet Assamba and Deputy High Commissioner Mrs. Diedre Mills for their warm welcome and invitation.
