Orphan Aid, Liberia: Deworming Report

Over the past couple of months we have sent our team around the poorest of villages in Liberia to search for orphanages in need of medication, specifically deworming medication. Our goal at Orphan Aid, Liberia is to keep you updated with everything we do. We want you to know 100% of your support is going to provide for these sick children.

Transparency is essential in any business, but especially the nonprofit sector. Here is a detailed report straight from our Country Director following our deworming mission.

Introduction

Considering that Liberia needs to recover fully from the effects of the 14 years of civil unrest, the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic that turned thousands of children orphans and victims and to prepare for a sustainable national growth and development, it is necessary that the requisite mechanisms and techniques be put into place for a productive future. This is something which greatly lies within the provision of opportunities and services geared toward the advancement of youth and young adults specifically orphans.
We foresee that until orphans and disadvantaged young people and young adults are capacitated with necessary needed medication, skills and guidance; they will lack the means to sustain themselves and be smoothly transitioned into life and the world of work, thereby resulting in them continuing to exist as burdens on the nation. OAL has focus within nine (9) Counties where the 14 years of civil conflict and outbreak of the Ebola various left thousands of children orphans, survivals, and victims.

PROBLEMS

We observed that Liberian children, especially orphans, Ebola survivors, and victims are infested with worms and other diseases caused by bacteria because of poor sanitary habits such as, neglecting to wash hands, fruits, vegetables, and eating utensils.
The infestation of worms and bacterial-caused diseases tend to affect the energy level, concentration and academic performance of people, especially children.
