How to have an objective project evaluation

This is a question that we, at Otcrit, get a lot on a daily basis. Perfect objectivity is only a utopic concept since reaching it would exclude entirely a human point of view. However, having a lot of information could reduce the subjective factor to a minimum. This is the reason why we have developed and keep on expanding the types of reports and analyses that would like to have on the Otcrit platform. Deciding whether an asset has a future in this turbulent market requires an incredibly diligent investigation. If a crypto-currency is being praised for having a revolutionary privacy feature, it could be a negligible upside compared to some other issue, coming from the legal standpoint of such a crypto-currency existence for instance. The latter could lead to a governmental prohibition of the coin’s usage and inevitably it would affect its price as well (which is what the overall majority of investors is interested in after all). So having different perspectives on the same project could be quite useful.

Otcrit is applying a system of evaluation, which is used by both respected crypto-researchers and traditional VC companies. After all, a crypto-project, although not offering classic shares and not operating as a public company, does bear a lot of similarities with a start-up and a lot of its success is dependent on the same factors. Those are the industry, the competition, the team, the partnerships, the underlying technology, etc. The similarities in the way these ventures functions and therefore are evaluated are greater than most people realize.

Becoming more objective can also be accomplished if the sources of information are diversified, then there can be no accusations of having an agenda. Our strength comes from the dozens (planning to reach hundreds and thousands in the future) of analysts and crypto-enthusiasts who want to highlight the disruptive projects and protect the community from aiding malicious ventures. BitConnect was a fine example of this — while many took part in their referral program, others kept on alerting everyone of the dangers that this classical Ponzi scheme held. They did not personally gain anything from doing so, but they did it merely to save the rest from making a grave mistake. Otcrit stands with these people and we would like to make sure to reward them, in order to make sure that even more individuals are incentivized to join us in investigating these threads.

Since getting any type of exposure nowadays is extremely desirable, we expect numerous marketing experts and cunning bounty hunters to join the platform, especially once its popularity grows. Their goal will be to publish reports, which will be promoting the project that these users are affiliated to. To reduce their numbers and eradicate their promotions, we will apply several layers of content observation — going through them one by one will be virtually impossible, considering that we strive to have at least hundreds of reports on a daily basis. First, the system will be detecting key ‘hype’ words and phrases the moment they are typed. This will include examples such as ‘surpass Bitcoin’, ‘incredible returns’, ‘certain success’, etc. Words like ‘lambo’ and ‘moon’ will not be left unnoticed either. The second layer will be the community itself — it will be asked to evaluate each report’s objectivity. If we receive more than a couple of such ratings, our staff will personally look into the report, which has been… reported. Confirming that it is indeed a marketing trick will lead to it being deleted, its creator banned and the users, who have happened to pay for it — compensated. Since each report purchase will actually be a smart contract between the issuer and the reader, only a positive mark on the client’s side would release the sum to the content creator. If a user is unsatisfied with the quality of the report but his rating stands alone among numerous positive ones, he will not be remunerated. Otherwise, mischievous purchasers could take advantage of the abundance of free reports presented to them through such a loophole.

In a few words, Otcrit is building a system, which is (almost) self-regulating and it will only be taking the role of arbitrator when needed. Absolute objectivity will never be reached, of that we can be certain. It doesn’t impede us from trying though.
