A guerrilla army needs funding. Unlike Columbia, Venezuela doesn’t have many coca plantations, but has a lot of petroleum that could fund a guerrilla army should they move east into Venezuela. But, on the other hand, that petroleum isn’t light and sweet and is difficult to refine — I believe they currently (or at least in the recent past) send their oil to La. to be refined — so the US would probably need to be complicit to some degree for this scenario to play out.
