Hi Kitty! Thanks for the nice response!

It’s very heartening to see Asian women supporting what I’m saying because Asian men and women have to look out for each other. When I saw how Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang idealized whiteness, especially white women, in Master of None, I had a viscerally negative reaction.

Given how our media class is steeped in white assimilationist liberalism, I wasn’t expecting any kind of backlash against TATBILB. But still, the near-silence has been eye-opening. What’s been encouraging, however, is how uniform the critical reaction has been on Asian Reddit. The r/asianamerican and r/asiantwox subreddits are usually very supportive of any AsAm representation, but they were admirably able to show principle (see below).

And you’re completely right about Asian parents often exacerbating the problem. All this needs to get talked about, but for a lot of AsAms, especially those who are already ascendant in the media class, they’re hesitant because they’ve got too much personally invested in not only their careers but also their personal worldviews.

So people like you and me have got to push this dialogue.
