Eyes from the #9 — Ozymandias

There’s a restaurant we pass every day. It’s a big structure with Egyptian motif everywhere — there’s a giant Sphinx head facing the highway — watching us as the #9 rumbles past. There’s sign that reads MAGIC ISLAND (I think) along one side in large yellow lettering. It’s a beautiful structure… as long as you ignore the mold growing up the walls, or the foliage in the cracked and fading parking lot either dead and brown or growing wild.

Yeah it’s abandoned. The Sphinx reigns over an empty and moldering kingdom. I can’t help but chuckle at the mental image of the great Sphinx yelling at passerby “Look upon my works and despair, bitches!” back in the day. When it was powerful. When it was popular. When it was open.

There’s all sorts of analogies I could make about that great Sphinx head and with what’s going on this election cycle in American politics, or the world today, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera… but there really isn’t any point anymore. Hell I could even find a picture of the Sphinx to make a meme out of… but I’m dictating this from my phone and right now…

Percy Shelly’s work — ”Ozymandias” has always been a favorite of mine.

Jesus, I am so tired.
