The Strangest Marketing Ploy I’ve Ever Encountered, But I’ll Admit It Worked
Ester Bloom

To date I’ve made $10.30 off of junk mail -- $10 pending. March of Dimes keeps sending me envlopes containing a single dime, a sheet of return address labels, and a lingering guilt trip. I keep the dimes and trash the stickers, because I don’t like feeling bad about myself whenever I drop an envelope in the mail.

A month or so ago I received a letter from a university performing a study on the local health care systems. They asked me to fill out a survey about my perceptions of the quality of various hospitals in the area, and in 6-8 weeks they’ll send me a check for $10.
