Step 1: Download

Download the latest version of the Particl Desktop client that corresponds to your operating system (OS) on Particl.io

Step 2: Prerequisites

Extract the content of the zip file to any location on your computer. Launch the Particl Desktop client by clicking on its executable file and accept the terms and conditions, if you agree with them (it is required to use the Particl Desktop).

Step 3: Create / Restore a Marketplace Wallet

To enable the Open Marketplace, you need to create a second wallet and name it “Market”, without the quotation marks. Doing so will enable marketplace functionalities. For the moment, you can only create one market-enabled wallet per client.

Click on the + button on the top left corner to add a new wallet.

Chose between Create wallet to create your first wallet and Restore wallet if you want to import a pre-existing marketplace wallet

Name your wallet “Market”, without the quotation marks. This step is mandatory to enable the marketplace.

This password is going to encrypt your wallet.dat file, you will need it each time you want to unlock your wallet and it will be needed if you want to make a backup of your wallet using this file.

The 24 words seed, as well as the wallet.dat file, allows you to recover your funds in all the balances of your “Market” wallet but not the history of your activity on the marketplace (which include the bids, the listings and the funds which could currently be locked in an escrow smart-contract).

Frequently make a backup of your particl-market folder to be able to restore your entire market profile which includes the market-related data mentioned in the paragraph just above.

This folder is located in:

Windows -> C:\Users\<logged in username>\AppData\Roaming\
MacOS -> ~/Library/Application Support\
Linux -> ~/.particl-market

This is your 24 word seed. This seed allows you to restore your “Market” wallet without the need of your wallet.dat file or your encryption password. Write these words on a piece of paper and keep them safely.

To ensure you’ve properly noted your recovery phrase, enter the missing words in the empty fields.

(Optional) This is the recovery password, it can encrypt you seed: if you opt to add one and lose it, your seed become useless. This password prevents someone to have access to your funds if they find your recovery phrase, but if you forget about this password, you will permanently lose access to your funds. It ‘s advised to let this field empty if you are not experimented.

This step shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. If the client gets stuck and does not progress to the next step after more than 10 minutes, you can close and reopen it. This will give you access to your wallet, but you will need to manually generate public and private addresses by going to the RECEIVE page and click on “new public/private address”

Click on Finish setup to have access to your wallet.

Step 4: Verification

Go to the receive tab and verify that you indeed have a public and a private address. If you don’t, generate the addresses by clicking on New public/private address in their respective tabs.

Step 5: Wait for the blockchain to be fully synchronized

If it is the first time you download the Particl blockchain, it can take up to several hours or just few minutes, depending of your internet connection.
