The reason glass ketchup bottles had that paper label glued to the neck was that insect parts in the ketchup would float to the top. The label concealed them. You used to have to shake the bottle before using the condiment, not to get it out of the container, but to remix it as it would separate into different stratas depending on weight and the contaminants. Fun stuff.
