Thanks for writing this Corey. Perhaps your client would be shocked to know that by 2020 the under 18 population will already be majority non-white, and by mid century the US adult population at large will reach that tipping point. But that’s not really the point, is it? The fact that advertising is such a powerful tool to shape public perceptions of what is “normal” and what is “other” gives those of us in that community a special responsibility to not perpetuate those stereotypes. It shouldn’t take the one person of color in the room to carry the weight of righting these wrongs. Those of us in media all share that burden.
