Beginners Guide to PSVR

Let’s face it, VR is something that won’t be going away anytime soon. While you’d love to jump onto the bandwagon and take part in this new trend, the cost of entry might just seem to high. Not only is there the steep price of the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, there’s also the factor that you need an extremely powerful PC at your disposal.

This can be a turn off from VR for a lot of people, but it doesn’t have to be. In the very near future (October 2016), Sony will begin shipping their own VR headset. And it comes at half the price of the HTV Vive.

Of course, you do need more than just the PSVR headset to get started. So let’s breakdown what all is needed so everyone can get ready for it’s launch in October.

Even without a PS4, PSVR is the cheapest solution

I went and bought a PS4 specifically for their upcoming headset. Before this, I hadn’t owned a Sony product since the original PS2. And even if you’re in the same situation as I am, you don’t own a PlayStation 4 yet, PSVR will still come out to be the cheapest way to get started with VR.

Shopping List

Let’s say you’re like me and you’re starting with nothing. Here’s what all you need to start saving your couch change towards.

Wrap Up

So for a little more than the price of just the Vive headset, you can get everything you need to get started with Sony’s upcoming PlayStation VR. And for those of you who already have a PlayStation 4, you’re about halfway there. Congratulations!

Over the next few months, I’ll be preparing for the launch by getting accustomed to the Sony ecosystem again. How are you all biding your time until PSVR comes out?
