Dr Sian Proctor debuts Space2Inspire
Inspired by her love of Earth and the love of her own mother, astronaut artist Dr Proctor unveils a personally designed product line of art, apparel, and custom merchandise.
When my mother passed away, I found a box filled with postcards. She had saved every single postcard I’d sent her over the past 30 years! I was so moved by the thought of how much my mother enjoyed receiving those simple postcards that I decided I would send that same joy around the planet. That was the beginning of Space2inspire. My brand Space2Inspire now enables people from around the world to share the connection of AfroGaia and Earthlight, and invites you to discover your own personal Space2Inspire.

Dr Sian Proctor and the Overview Effect & EarthLight
Many astronauts experience a transformative shift in awareness and identity that changes them forever: “The Overview Effect.” They return to Earth as humanitarians and conservationists, reporting an “elevated empathy” and a responsibility to care for our planet and share their perspectives with the rest of the world.
In describing the experience to others, astronauts and scientists have often stated that we should send artists and poets to space to help translate this ineffable, transformative experience.
Then, on September 15, 2021, we did indeed send an artist and poet.
Launching as the mission pilot for Inspiration4, the first all-civilian mission to space, Dr Sian Proctor became the first woman commercial astronaut and the only Black woman to pilot a spaceship.
Dr Sian Proctor is the first astronaut who won their seat to space as an artist and poet. While in space, she experienced the beauty, magic, and awe of EarthLight. Now, her mission is to bring the unique “EarthLight” perspective down to planet Earth through her immersive art and poetry.

Space2Inspire: The Art of Inspiration is the poetry and art of Dr Sian Proctor’s 3-day journey to space.
Space2Inspire captures Dr Proctor’s experience training for the Inspiration4 mission, launching to space, being in orbit and experiencing the Overview Effect as well as witnessing the phenomena of EarthLight, and finally her safe return home and landing–along with her fellow crew mates, Commander Jared Isaacman, and medical officer Hayley Arceneaux, and payload specialist Chris Sembroski–as the first female commercial astronaut pilot of a spacecraft and the first Black woman to pilot a spaceship.
