5 Reasons to Join Crunchbase
By: Izzy Sarlo

Startups, VCs, and investors — oh my! These are all things you can find on Crunchbase, a website filled with data on hundreds of thousands of companies, investors, and VC firms. The site is known for being a hub of information that allows investors and companies to connect easily and with the right information, and many use it as a tool to keep a pulse on the tech startup scene and emerging startups.
The data collected from Crunchbase is integrated into a number of lists and research projects about top startups and the best areas to build a startup — you can find some examples here, here and here. As Philly’s representation as a startup hub is falling behind in the media, increased activity on Crunchbase will get us one step closer to gaining Philly tech the recognition it deserves.
While most founders are aware of Crunchbase’s existence, only some take the initiative to create a company profile and become an active member of the Crunchbase community. Taking a look at the site’s list of Philadelphia companies is proof that not all founders here are taking advantage of this valuable tool.
For those involved in a startup that is not currently listed on Crunchbase, here’s the top five reasons to join and get your company registered ASAP:
- It Can Help Better Your SEO: Just like adding your company to Twitter or Facebook, filling out a company profile on Crunchbase can give you an SEO boost. Making sure your profile is filled out as completely as possible with a link to your website and any social media pages will give you the best results for an SEO bump.
- You’ll Gain Increased Exposure to VCs and Investors: Crunchbase is filled with investors and VCs checking out company profiles to locate emerging startups in areas near them. The top VC firm on Crunchbase right now, 500 Startups, has invested over $125M from Seed to Series C rounds in companies from Crunchbase in 2017 alone.
- You’ll Broaden the Scope of Your Startup’s Name Recognition: Aside from VCs and investors, Crunchbase is a tool that’s been used by everyone from talent searching for new job opportunities to journalists looking for the next tech trends and startups to write about to larger corporations that may be looking for their next acquisition. Putting your company on Crunchbase means putting your company eye-level with all these prospects.
- You’ll Help Rep Your City: What’s better than helping your company? Helping your company and your city. By registering, you’ll increase not only your company’s visibility, but visibility for all of Philly tech. Plus, you’ll support the mission to create a cohesive, informative, and accurate list of everyone involved in Philadelphia’s startup ecosystem.
- It’s FREE: Nothing in life is free… except Crunchbase. If you gain even one of the benefits listed above by creating a company profile, then it’s worth it. A profile won’t take more than a few minutes to fill out, so there’s really no good reason not to join!
