One year ago, we announced Panvala to the public. Today, we are excited to announce the release of our beta. From now on, every Ethereum community member can help decide which projects receive funding through the Panvala system.

If you could decide which projects in the Ethereum ecosystem got funded, which would you pick? Would you focus on scaling? Security? UX?

Would you pay attention to a team’s previous projects? Pace of shipping? Business model?

In Panvala, it’s all up to you.

Panvala is a decentralized Ethereum Foundation that runs on its own token. Every 3 months, PAN token grants are released to teams doing the work that moves Ethereum forward. So far, we’ve issued 19 grants to teams including Sigma Prime, L4, Prysmatic Labs and Connext. You can find a list of all grantees, the work they do and the amount of tokens received on our website.

Our token grants are funded by Panvala Patrons: Ethereum community members that have pledged to make a donation to support the teams doing the work we all depend on.

In our previous grant rounds — Batch 1 and Batch 2—the Panvala Awards Committee decided which teams should receive token grants. But now that our beta is live and our smart contracts are finalized…it’s finally time to let you all decide!

Batch 3 of our token grants will be released on August 2. The voting round will start on July 19, and will last until July 26. Here’s how you can help decide which projects receive a grant:

How To Vote

  1. Request test tokens by tweeting us an Ethereum address you own. You will receive 1000 Rinkeby testnet tokens in the following days.
  2. When voting starts on July 19, navigate to app.panvala.com/slates and connect your Metamask.
  3. Click on a slate to see which grant proposals are included in it.
  4. When you’ve decided which slate you prefer, click on ‘ballots’ and follow the instructions on your screen to cast your vote.

Optional: Don’t like any of the existing slates? Create your own by clicking on ‘add slate’.

That’s all! To thank you for participating in Panvala before the system is live, the first 100 people who tweet us with a request for test tokens (and actually use those tokens to vote) will each receive 1000 ‘real’ PAN tokens when the system launches on mainnet in August.

For this batch, anyone can request test tokens and vote on what work gets funded. But when the system is live, the distribution of token grants is completely in the hands of PAN token holders — Ethereum community members who want to have a voice in ecosystem funding.

We’re looking forward to seeing which grants you all choose and hope that you’re as excited as we are about this novel way of funding Ethereum’s future.
