Lessons 2 and 3 strike me as the most pressing. Liberals already has a wide diversity of groups that could target different audiences, we have think tanks, we have marchers, but the emphasis seems to be placed on convincing one another of which approach is the best rather than letting everyone reach out in their own spaces. Even if you believe full-on Marxists are wrong, in my experience they’re talking to and engaging people who liberal think tankers would never be near, better to let each other get on with it and form bridges on those areas where we do agree. I have no evidence but I’d speculate that countries are more left-leaning where the centre doesn’t spend all its time attacking the hard left.
