1 Corinthians 1:18 For the word of the Cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us it is the power of God!

Now let me break it down for this is a verse that has a lot there and it needs to be dissected.

First what is the word of the Cross and why is it folly? The basic answer is that it is the Gospel! Right? The good news that Jesus died and rose again to save us from our sin? That we have said a prayer of salvation? Have faith in an unseen God? Trust His word that we are to read? Now it is just one of many observations that I have seen over the years in the church. In peoples minds it is really basic and easy!

However is it really that easy? Is that what Paul was passing on to the church at Corinth? Was God’s word easily delivered and received with open arms? Were people in the church rich and did they live comfortable? Were the words He was writing “Christianity 101"? Hardly! It was a serious task that He was delivering words of Eternal Life that had a powerful connection to what was written in the O.T. They were words that were meant to Change The World! That is what Christ did! Should we not also do the same? Are we not willing to be Heralds of a foolish word? Look at our world around us it is changing very very rapidly! We are to share/preach to those who think it is foolish. Why do they think it is foolish? They Love there SIN! They do not want to REPENT! Just as we did! Yet we are to not give up sharing in LOVE! We are to not let obstacles get in our way! We need to SHARE and trust Him to watch over us, just as Paul did!

They are Perishing! As I write this it hits me that is why they need the words of life. They have NO OTHER HOPE!!! We had NONE! How can they repent if they have not heard/seen? What they do know is the world and all the evils all around us! They know their sin, they know the sins of others they know that they need something, that is why they drink, do drugs and have many many addictions! That is what they know and they are perishing! Paul had a deep love for his hearers. He traveled over mountains and endured many many dangers, beatings, shipwrecked, starvation, and homeless on his journey’s until he had converts! You and I do not even come close to going through all of that!

It is the Power of God! Really is there any other power? Is there any other way to PREACH other than with this power? Old Paths, Prosperity Preachers, Humanism in the church/pulpit are they going to do anything that is of eternal value? No, not even close! We have to trust God and His power to work through us when we get an opportunity to share! It is the power of God that leads us, that prepares ones heart to hear the word and to help one share the word!

We are to share and be foolish in the power of God! What other choice do we have? We are to do good works that He has prepared for us to do and without faith IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!
