Where have all the flowers gone…

I am overwhelmed. I am perplexed. It appears as if every waking moment I am seeing our beautiful country coming apart at the seams…We are so polarized as a Nation. This country that I love has fallen on some very hard times. Discontent is the attitude du jour.

There are scads of people on the right and just as many on the left who are on the fence. The problem that presents itself is there are not many people left in the middle. Where have all the flowers gone…

What has happened to rational thought?

What has happened to shared values?

What has happened to our working together for the good of the country?

These are questions that will most likely go unanswered. Our new President (whom I pray for daily) claims to be draining the swamp when in reality he insights chaos and confusion. I understand the need to establish his administration in the first 100 days. I want to believe that he has our country and sophisticated security interest at the forefront of his agenda. But it all feels very much over the top. I think he is trying to accomplish too much…way too soon.

On the other side of the isle, you have career politicians who continually dupe their base into believing that they have the best interest of our country at heart. Hogwash! Career Politicians have an agenda that is going to either benefit their checking account or personal interest projects. I watch these buffoons cheat, lie and confuse issues daily.

I personally feel that we have no representation on any level government.

Now let’s talk about the media.

We are informed about current events with the information the media gatekeepers want us to hear. We need to face the facts; there is no longer such a thing of fair and balanced reporting. I am not sure that there ever has been. The events of the day are doled out by people who have an either liberal or conservative agenda! Where is the truth? Media has perpetuated a (us against them) scenario that has no win. The problem is that we have difficulty figuring out who is with them and who is with us, and then the truth or facts, somehow get lost in the bias.

When I open my social media feed and read the post from my friends, I cannot help but be flabbergasted. We have fallen asleep at the wheel, and no one seems to care. We spew ugliness into our news feed without thinking about the ramification of the words we use. We need to think about what we write. It appears that critical thought is somehow lost or not practiced by the majority of my countrymen.

We need to be a part of the solution to the change the world not continuing in the context of the problem by routinely blasting those who do not hold our political persuasion.

Writing hateful words on Facebook or Twitter is not going to change anything. We make a difference at the ballot box. As voting Americans, we have to realize how important it is to look into those candidates that we elect critically. We can change things by imposing term limits on those that we choose to represent us.

We change our country by changing our community. Real change will occur when we start listening to one another.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”

Now is the time my friends to start thinking about the next election cycle. Mid-terms are coming sooner than we think and there are many local elections that we can be a part of and possibly affect change. Make the choice today to become part of the solution. Let’s actually make our country great again.

I love you all!
