He wrote “Heart of Darkness”. Did you ever see the movie Apocalypse Now! It was based on Conrad’s novel. It’s a short book, about one hundred or so pages, but for its descriptions and its… well, darkness, it’s worth your time. There may not be a better novelistic account of the dark side of imperialism. As a writer, it’s worth reading to learn about how to frame a story and how to write vivid, clear descriptions.
I’m glad you weren’t bothered by the tag. I felt I had to acknowledge your feedback when writing about Conrad and triangulation. I don’t know if I told you, but I was, and am, glad to know you felt the piece worked for all of the set-up it contains, and that the blending of the perspectives felt purposeful and not forced to you. I’m like you, in that I’m here on Medium to practice and to learn what works and what doesn’t. Your input, and the input of all the writers I’ve been fortunate enough to meet during my short time here, has been invaluable. I hope you know that.
