Hi Bill — 2 quick updates …
- I’ve enjoyed the last 2 GRSO concerts as much as any I can remember. I hope the symphony likes your new music director, because early results are extremely encouraging to me. Just sounds like people are listening to each other more. Kudos.
- My 14-year-old son, Gus, wants to take drum kit lessons. He’s been doing percussion in school band for about 3 years, and he knows how to read music from several years of piano. He has good musicality in general, but he’s never had private drum lessons. In fact, we don’t even have a drum kit. Can you recommend an appropriate teacher? I don’t know if you take beginners, but perhaps you have a current or former student who might be a good fit? I’ll ask said teacher about best way to acquire kit. His musical tastes tend more toward hip hop, so I don’t know if his efforts will be reinforced by his listening, but we’ll see.
Gus has attended the last couple of GRSO concerts with us as well — you had a noticeable snare roll at the beginning of one (last one, I think), and he leaned over to me and whispered, “how does he make such a perfect roll?” and I said, “uh … I think it’s called practice, Gus.”
Please let me know if you have any quick thoughts/recommendations, either here or at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks!
